Walking around / Andando in giro

Do your best and I will do mine.

We are back at that familiar gate
and we'll go through it and step a little ways along the path
if only to be moved
if only to find reason to be moved
to discover that life is adorned again and anew
with ornaments odd or merely oddly strewn

We find the hard, gleaming evidence of grand lives past
But surely there was a mess of junk that did not bear up
through turbulent years and rough weather.  This is
lost to us, but we know some things have been stripped
away and we are perhaps glad to forget these signs
of our eternal ordinariness -

So let us then you and I
keep coming along this path
stopping to admire as it strikes us
each symbol of a past glory shared
and then let us move on

We'll come back through the gate
and look with bathed eyes on a still brilliant future.

(for there are glorious moments just ahead, and more beyond)

sopravvissuto anni turbolenti e tempo violente.

  2. This is my favorite, so far, and it keeps changing with every reading. It's a self-sustaining poem!
